After a beta phase that was reminiscent of the average world war in length, World of Tanks finally got live status on April 12

Other than the server wipe that wiped out our painstakingly grinded Jagdtigers, Is-week and Mause, nothing epoch-making happened. There are no new maps or new tanks, unless we count the gift vehicle (Sherman M4A2E4) received by each betting participant with more than 1000 lots under their belt. What is also missing is the free 250 gold coins that, like Jacobs coffee, caressed our nostrils every morning. Ah well, life goes on and the credit card pulls itself out of the wallet..

World of Tanks, which we first wrote about in the First Impressions section of SK 9/2010, is a free-to-play massively multiplayer shooter that works through an optional microtransaction system. The game is localized to Serbian and has a huge player base from ex-Yu space. We dare say that, as a phenomenon, we are not far behind Dot and Kanter, with the popularity that exploded when the game went into open beta this winter.

Fifteen tanks on one side, fifteen on the other; between them are meadows, clearings, city streets, countryside strewn with villages, or a third thematic map. Light, medium and heavy tanks, tank hunters and self-propelled artillery ... Five classes, five roles that are pervasive and complementary in the mission of a free-for-all team deatmatch that brings you money and experience, investing in research and buying new equipment and new vehicles. An extremely simple but crudely addictive concept. Although it has a seemingly serious WWII pedigree, World of Tanks is not a simulation but a very simple shooter that operates commands for movement, turret rotation, firing and ammunition selection, which does not make it any more complicated than shooters where you operate a soldier instead of an armored vehicle.

The basic, biggest and most striking advantage of World of Tanks (and the most important difference with the twitch shooters) is that it is a shooter where you can brilliantly be like a 70 year old, let alone slow trirty-something who has a day job and family responsibilities. Reflexes play a role, but far less so than a "feel for the filing", a flair for positioning, picking a target and reading opposing intentions. This applies to playing random games in PuGsa, while in the case of clan fights, add a VOIP chat with friends, planning and team tactics implemented in the list of mental treats.

Another very important plus of the game is the fact that it is representative of the pick up and play concept. You will learn all the essentials in half an hour, and each time it occurs to you to play a game, it will not take more than 45 seconds from the decision to the beginning of the dusting. The game is loaded as a bullet, the player never misses (on the contrary), the parties last a maximum of 15 minutes (usually less than five) ... The game is designed to execute time at work, supports the painless 'Alt-Tab' and eats minimum system resources .

Finally, we should not neglect the fact that the game is a fry, both downloadable and playable, and the average player will not feel deprived until the sixth to seventh vehicle tiers (approx. Two weeks for non-maniacs), when the premium account will make it much easier life. If you then (or earlier) want 50 percent more experience and money in each fight, you will pay 2500 gold per month for a premium account (approx. 10 euros). You can also use gold to buy 100% elite crew, elite consumables, and APCR ammunition, sub-caliber projectiles with greater penetration power than normal. The latter is a bit of a draw from the publisher, as players who can afford the cost of three to ten dinars per shot (depending on the caliber of the cannon) will potentially dominate a pair of same tiers.

The game, of course, has some pastel-dark moments as well. The quality of the maps, for example, is terribly uneven and directly proportional to their timeline. Malinovka throws both teams into dry camping mode. The outcome of Murovanka depends on whether or not you got a team with a base near the "magic" forest. The narrow streets of Himelsdorf represent a sea for artillery and tank hunters ... Newer maps such as Cliff, Abbey and Sand River are great in every aspect and offer more tactical options, but as the game randomly throws you at maps and offers you no choice , according to Marphy's Law, you'll get more hair than thighs. Another problem is random players (pickups, ie PuGs), at least 40 percent of whom have little to do with their role in combat, but this is a problem that has plagued every scammer since the Middle Ages.
